Lambda Theta Nu Sorority, Inc. steps/dances with machetes to symbolize our culture and the strength of Latina women.
In 1987 the sisters of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. first introduced stepping to the ladies of Lambda Theta Nu Sorority, Inc. in a unity step. Later on in 1989 Lambda Theta Nu Sorority, Inc. established the tradition and became the first sorority to use machetes in their performances while stepping. Machetes which are usually used only by males, became a way for the ladies to challenge the male only tradition and it is then that machetes became a symbol of our culture and the strength us Latina women.
